ams288 Member since: Apr 21, 2016 Threads: 29 Posts: 12539 | So Joe Biden, Pres Obama, and Tim Kaine are all speaking tonight. Which one is going to go after Trump hard? I feel like the speeches at the DNC have been very gentle to Trump so far. Hopefully one of them can give a great speech highlighting how unfit for office John Miller truly is. We all know Obama can humiliate Trump like no one else... he did at the correspondent's dinner that one year.... “A straight man will not go for kids.” - AZDuffman |

I know I've heard "democrat" lots of times. As in "Democrat party." After a little searching I found this article about it: Since When Did It Become the Democrat Party?. The gist of the article is that using democrat as the adjective form is something Republicans do to annoy Democrats. Knowledge is Good -- Emil Faber |

Probably the VPs, but if I could script Obama's opening, he'd come to the podium and there would be an empty chair with an orange wig on it. After the opening applause died down, a workman would come out and remove it. Obama would thank him as he takes it off stage, and then turn to the audience and say, "You don't think I was really going to give him any more free airtime did you?" (ref. Clint Eastwood empty chair) You believe in an invisible god, and dismiss people who say they are trans? Really? |

"Democratic" is an adjective. "Ancient Greece had a democratic form of government." "Democrat" is a noun. "Obama is a Democrat." A political party is a thing, meeting the qualifications of a noun. No person says, "The Democratics took control of Congress in 2006." No person says, "I am a Democratic." "Republican" has noun and adjective formats. "I am a Republican." "The Republican plan in Congress will likely face opposition from Obama." Along the line, "Democratic" seems to have become the possessive for "Democrat." Might be for easier word flow." "The Democrat plan in Congress raises taxes." "The Democratic plan in Congress raises taxes." That possessive gradually morphed to describe the party name. But an adjective cannot be a person, place, or thing. That job is reserved for nouns. The article has it completely backwards here grammar wise. IMHO it annoys Democrats because "democratic" has connotations of egalitarianism, which Democrats tend to see themselves as. Equality of outcome vs. equality of opportunity in fact is the main left/right divide when you get down to it. Using the proper noun, "Democrat" takes that away. The President is a fink. |

Evenbob Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 146 Posts: 25011 | George Bush Jr called it Democrat Party all thru his presidency. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |
