The NFL will be staging a regular season Monday Night game in Mex City this year.

Well, the Raiders vs the Texans, which I'm told are still NFL teams...

The stadium is quite large (I've been there). Prices range from 550 to 6,050 pesos, or about $30 to $320 US. I assume the cheaper seats will be high up, where you need a telescope to make out the players, while the expensive seats will be lower down.

I've seen one game live in all my life, Seattle at Miami in 83 or 84. I enjoyed the experience, but I also decided TV is a much better way to see a game. Though that may have changed since gigantic screens show the action live in many stadia (and replays, too).

I might pay to see a game I'd find interesting, but this one isn't it. There have been NFL preseason games here, too. I've never been to one. I understand paying for something you can watch on TV. But for something you wouldn't even watch on TV? <shakes head>

I made sure to catch a game when I was in San Francisco back in 2010. 49ers v Raiders at Candlestick Park. What an atmosphere! I know the basics of the game but am certainly no expert, however it was a fantastic experience. I can certainly see why the game is so popular. I wouldn't hesitate to go to another game if time ever permitted on a holiday. Unfortunately the season won't have quite started when I visit next month.

Watching football is generally better on TV but going to a game tends to be more of a social event. I try to go to one football game per year with a bunch of my guy friends but that is more for the trip itself, the game is just the excuse. We try to go to a different city each year.

Yup.

Where did you seat? We had seats behind the end zone, and were lucky to see three touchdowns scored right there. But past the 20-yeard line, the players might as well have been on the Moon for all we could see. It wasn't that bad, though, as we sat next to several locals who were quite friendly throughout the game. So we talked a lot when the ball was far away.

We sat pretty close to the back. Maybe 15 rows from the very top. Was behind the end zone basically looking directly at one of the end zone corners if that makes sense. Despite being close to the back the view was still great. Could see pretty much everything that was going on.

How do I post a photo? The view from our seat is here:

We were lower down, perhaps ten rows up, dead center behind the goal posts. I could see past the 20-yard line, but couldn't make out much.

Here's a better photo from where we were. The other one was zoomed in a bit.

That's a better angle than from lower down. Though if I'd been there, I'd have found it hard to follow the action past the 20-yard line as well. What's needed are binoculars.

This is why there is such a discrepancy in the seat prices. Seats at the 50 yard line, about a quarter of the way up, are the best in the house. You aren't that far from the action, no matter where it is on the field. The seats closest to the field are actually among the worst, as your view is usually blocked by folks standing in front of you.

Luxury boxes are weird, as most of the ones I have seen are pretty far from the field, but actually the most expensive seat in the house. I suppose you are paying for what happens in the box (food and drink service, large screen tv's, couches, private restrooms, lobbying contact with influential politicians) rather than the view of what is happening on the field.

You can watch the game on TV and be at the stadium.

Win-win.
