Reports of the plane's maneuvers came from the Greek Air Force. The Egyptian government is saying there were no maneuvers.<sigh>

Meanwhile neither Greece nor Egypt has released any radar tapes (ATC or Military) that substantiate the claims they have made.

Same thing with signals from the black boxes: tempis is fugiting but only a French vessel with three mile equipment aboard claims to have heard a signal. No word from Egyptian submarine.

One odd "cause": a meteor shower.

The FDR and CVR do have batteries but I think that is only for signaling not for continued operation after a power loss, so there probably would be little data about the descent or impact since the ACARS system indicated the fire in the avionics bay knocked out the subsystem that milks the FDR's datastream and sends it live to EgyptAir.

FIVE separate satellites picked up the ELT that would automatically transmit a signal upon a severe impact such as a water landing. Strange how its so long for the various countries to provide data to pinpoint the location. It used to take several passes and up to an hour for an ELT signal to be traced, but this new system is supposed to be faster.

Black Box sends sonar pings and battery life is variable due to temperature and possible impact damage, sub-sea canyons, etc. but estimated battery life is thirty days.

If it was an act of terrorism, presumably Islamic, why did they target an Egyptian plane?

Its extremely unlikely that it was an act of terrorism, but like any act of terrorism on Egyptian Soil it is an attack on the Tourism Segment of the Egyptian Economy and therefore an attack on an Insufficiently Islamic Government. Make their airlines and tourist attractions unsafe and those displaced by a moribund industry will flock to the True Islam: the Terrorist's version.

ISIS has been burning moderate Muslims to death in order to demonstrate their hatred for people who have lost the true calling. Although this may be an act of terrorism, I am starting to think it was either a test run or an act of an individual with sympathies for terrorist groups. The target seems to have no real symbolic value, and as an act of economic terrorism, it just seems too small.

What about the attack on an Egyptian museum that was a tourist destination? What about a lone gunman spraying AK47 fire at a tourist's beach resort? These were incidents that had tremendous effect on tourism in Egypt which is one of the major sources of hard currency and employs waiters, busboys, drivers, bartenders, rather than just tourguides. If the tourist hotels go under, all their former employees join the true Islam or else starve.

Five Billion Dollars cost to the Egyptian economy according to Capital Economics as quoted in Forbes.

I ran across contradictory reports that a) the black boxes had been recovered, b) the black boxes had been found and c) the beacon for the black boxes had been located.

Wow, that makes no sense
Our web filter on my work computer blocks all social sites such as Facebook which makes sense.
We have access to news on the internet
In the office we have CNN on all day

Signals from a black box were believed to have been detected by a French ship but news is controlled by Egypt, not the French BEA.

No black boxes have been located. None have been retrieved.

Private firms are working for Egypt and Egypt's navy is involved. None of those will give information to anyone but Egyptian authorities.

An interim report is due soon but don't expect much transparency on this, it is simply not in the Egyptian culture for ANY government official to tell the truth about anything. It simply does not happen.

It gets worse.

Because I'm often asked, by my boss, to look up all sorts of information, I'm supposed to have unrestricted access to the web at all times. meaning the web filter doesn't even apply to me.

The way this works is I ask IT support to set it up so. They do this. Then three days later the web filter is back. So I call them again. they fix it. Then three days later the web filter is back on. Rinse. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.
