Recently elected as mayor of London, he is one of roughly 1 million Muslims who know live in London, over half of which are foreign born. Khan is British born The borough of Towers Hamlet is the highest concentration of Muslims in London (close to 50%). Towers Hamlet is the former "East End" and is immediately to the East of the old "City of London". Whitechapel, the location of the Jack the Ripper murders, Canary Wharf, the original skyscraper section of London, and LCY, London City Airport, are all located in the borough of Tower Hamlets. The Mayor of London is an elected politician who, along with the London Assembly of 25 members, is accountable for the strategic government of Greater London and the position has only existed for 16 year. Sadiq Khan, who took up office on 9 May 2016, is only the third person to hold the position. Ken Livingstone from the creation of the role on 4 May 2000 until his succession by Boris Johnson, who served two terms before being succeeded by Khan. The ceremonial Lord Mayor of the City of London is a pro bono position held for one year, and was created in the year 1189 when Richard the Lionheart became king. The City of London was the old Roman city and is now a center of the banking industry with less than 7500 people living there full time. The Great Fire of London in 1666 which destroyed 80% of the City was also the peak of the residential population of The City. |

London is over 8 million people, divided into 32 boroughs and the City of London. So a borough is on average about 1/4 million people. I was showing you a diagram of the districts in the borough of Tower Hamlets in the East End. One of the most famous images of the East End of London is Gin Lane painted in 1751. The West End contains many districts, but Chelsea and Mayfair are two of the wealthiest districts. Mayfair is in the borough of "City of Westminster" and Chelsea is in "Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea". |

This means that for the next few months, if not years, wingnuts all over the world will blame any bad news coming from the UK on the Mayor of London; or perhaps on the people who elected him. Donald Trump is a one-term LOSER |

Mayor of London has a certain amount of power to it, especially around transportation issues it seems. It is said that your life flashes before your eyes just before you die.... it's called Life |
