But as soon as I turned around, I saw that it had rolled out of the parking area into a 4 lane street, bounced over a meridian and was stopped perpendicular to the curb on the opposite side. Also, a police car had just pulled up next to it and the officer was just getting out.

It was my lucky day though. No injuries, or damage, and the cop didn’t even give me a warning. Maybe he saw my initial look of horror and had mercy on me.

I know a hard drinker who called the police to report his car stolen. But it was actually still parked at the bar where he left it. Didn't know how he got home of course ... he liked telling the story. Things did not turn out well for him in the end.
