In other words, leave all reason and common sense at the doorstep, hold your nose and close your eyes and trust the unverifiable and the untrustable. Why on earth would anybody do that without being forced to. You're forced to believe it because that's what you were taught as a child. I suffer under no such handicap, I see Christianity for what it truly is. And it ain't a pretty. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Let me clarify. The human mind using reason can come to the logical conclusion that there is a God. I don't know when I have dismissed scientific theories for lack of evidence. In fact I think science, especially modern cosmology, supports some of the logical premises one can use to show that God does exist. There is no true conflict between science and faith, for they are both seeking truth - just on different levels. There should also be no conflict between science properly understood and religion when it is open to critique and discussion. I don't know if this little summary helps, but I think you may have misunderstood me or I did not make myself clear.
I like how you put "prove" in quotation marks. I think that shows we are on similar pages in regards to what "proving" something means in a logical, philosophical, or theological mindset. We cannot be talking about mathematical proofs (without quotations), what we are talking about is a preponderance of evidence that points us to one direction. It is then that "trust and faith" make a reasonable act to belief and put into practice what we have "proven". This is most surely an essential step of logical reasoning, at least an essential step if we want to live our lives in anything other than a theoretical bubble.
Not at all. You believe in something because it is reasonable and credible. It is historical, logical, helpful, makes sense of life, it is substantiated by others, has miracles attached to it, and you have personally experienced it in a real and powerful way. “It is with the smallest brushes that the artist paints the most exquisitely beautiful pictures.” ( |

Who is forcing me to see there is no evidence of a god? Better question, what is forcing me not to believe in unicorns or tooth fairies. Just plain old common sense, I think. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Only when you start with that conclusion anyway, and reverse engineer it to prove your point. If you start with no opinion at all, you will never ever come to the conclusion that there is a god. This is something you FrG, cannot look at objectively. You're mind was poisoned as a child, it's totally impossible for you be objective. You will see everything thru your 'god glasses', no matter how hard you try not to. You've been cursed, so to speak. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |
