$9,000/$600 = 15Xs $180,000/$30,000 = 6Xs While I agree with the Sears house, I'm confused at the numbers. The President is a fink. |

$600 = $9000 in today's money. $100 equals $1500 today, times 6 is $9K. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

I am shocked that slashdot is still around. The last time I thought about slashdot I would have used Netscape to read it. The mind hungers for that on which it feeds. |

I don't mean it as a criticism. I have not yet found a good politically neutral news source. I'll give slashdot a look. It was just kind of a blast from the past because I used it as a source for news on Unix and open source. It's been a long time since I was in that world. The mind hungers for that on which it feeds. |

Oh yes, now its coming back to my alcohol sodden brain cells you used to be a real computer geek. It was JimMorrison who used to be on this forum who was the guy who often entertained my heroin/speed/meth/anything addicted poker playing friend in Vegas. I don't think he knew anything at all about computers. He did know enough to have Nesarian's number on speed dial and in Vegas that is sometimes all you need. |

South Korea has finally begun their program to eliminate the coin as of 19 April (a little later than previously planned). They expect to demonetize coins by 2022. Major stores have begun giving al change on phone apps or on this T-Money card which can be used for public transportation. A card maximum value it can hold is about $430. It will be interesting to see how many money laundering operations involve a briefcase full of T-Money cards. As I said earlier the two smallest banknotes worth $0.86 and $4.30 will almost certainly start to vanish as well as most people will conduct small transactions electronically. The two larger banknotes worth $8.60 and $43.00 are currently 15% and 80% of the value of cash in circulation in Korea. They will remain in wide circulation for a longer period of time (especially the largest value) as they represent a different level of transaction, or they function as a store of value. |
