Now I really feel old. I read Playboy as a teenager and the models were not totally nude. That changed after Penthouse came out in the late 60's. About the same time Playboy stopped Little Annie Fannie ...

Even if you accept the premise that the centerfold is too tame to compete with hardcore internet porn, surely this decision won't increase sales. It will merely hasten their demise.

We'll see. Perhaps the idea is to make their way into one of the last bastions of magazine subscriptions: the doctor's waiting room. Or perhaps all is already lost anyway, so why not try something that will at least draw attention?

Or if Kodak stopped selling film.

Kodak is still selling film?? Ok. I know film is still produced for some specialized uses, like x-rays and movies. And I know photographic paper is still popular for printing digital photographs... I wonder if Fuji and Agfa are still selling film as well...

... Or if Kodak stopped selling film. Or if MTV stopped playing music. (Ok, bad example.)
Ok. Your MTV comment was a joke. But are you aware that Kodak stopped selling Kodachrome many years ago?
Ignorance is bliss and knowledge is power. But having only some facts can get you into trouble!

Yep, no more Simon & Garfunkel songs about Kodachrome.

But Kodak still makes Ektachrome slide film and of course print film.

Wow, that will be the end of an era. What kid my age didn't learn about female anatomy from Playboy. Maybe a little National Geographic too.

I can how it has come to this. I'm not in their shoes so I shouldn't judge. I guess they are trying to be something that men won't feel embarrassed to buy or read in public. Wouldn't surprise me if Maxim outsells them many times over currently.

Maybe my Playboy collection, which dates back to 1954, will go up in value now.

They are tricky as to gaining value. I just trashed the few I had as the price does not even hit $10. In an early "Pawn Stars" Rick says how that with rare exceptions they do not go way up because most guys save them for years. Save them for your grandsons!

You have the first one? Is it mint?

I have looked into this a fair bit and they are basically worth nothing after 1970 and not very much in the late sixties. Try putting a box of Playboys from any era after 1970 on Ebay and I bet you don't get $0.01, because they are not worth the expense of shipping. Maybe certain issues are worth something, like the Madonna one, but in general they just aren't worth their weight, and they are heavy.

Several years ago I got sick of lugging around boxes of them every time I moved and the space they took up so I gave away hundreds from about 1975 onward via CraigsList. It is a decision I don't regret.

No. The first one was December 1953. My collection starts somewhere in late 1954. I think I have every issue except a few from 1955 to 1969.

BTW, they showed surprisingly little way back them. The Marilyn Monroe centerfold was an exception and even that looked blurry.

The first one is worth real money, the
rest are not.
