While supporting cast member's ethnic backgrounds have been part of ongoing story arcs, individuals are valued for their intellect and special skills rather than their "color". I suppose that all started with the lead being a woman of super intellect. Michaela Conlin has a mixed race background. Her father is Irish American and her mother is Chinese American ![]() Other regulars are African American, and Persian. Does the portrayal of these minorities as successful professionals, who work in a "race blind" environment, give the audience a false sense of the reality of being a minority in America? Perhaps, but I think it is good for the kids, just as "Leave it to Beaver" was good for families in the 50's. |
