That is a really interesting map on the top Paco. I have never seen one that integrates what I assume is the land and the underwater topography on a small scale. It appears that the main river in the picture had carved a massive canyon when the ocean levels must have been significantly lower. So much for the theory that the rising ocean levels are a new man caused phenomenon.

Canyons in thecontinental shelf that are both exposed to the open ocean attract large whales because they are good breeding grounds for krill and other food for toothed whales. "The Gully" off of Nova Scotia is not as large as the Monterey Bay canyon, but it further to the north.
